It   is no longer necessary, but still allowed, to go to a notary for the passing of property for vehicles and trailers.  It is sufficient to go to the Registry Office of the Commune and not just that of the seller's residence or the Sportelli telematici dell'automobilista (Sta), to ask for the authentication of the signature on the bill of sale of movables.

The registry's office at the Communes can only authenticate the signature of the seller on the filled in bill of sale, while the sportelli telematici dell'automobilista (Pra, Aci and the agencies for motorization documents) can also offer complete advice as regards the filling in or the checking of the bill of sale and the documents.

The seller must personally present a valid identification document and the certificate of property (in the absence of an additional sheet) already filled in at the back.
The authentication of the signature costs (compulsory by law) € 14,62 stamp duty + € 0,52 for secretarial rights.
It will then be necessary to register the passing of property at the ACI - Ufficio PRA and to update the log-book, within 60 days from the authentication of the signature on the bill of sale.

In addition to the stamp duties and the fees for formalities, an agency's rights fee must be paid for the service given by the ACI Delegations and the Agencies for Motorization documents.
